- System Configuration
Click on Start, type msconfig
[Enter]. A System Configuration Window appears. From here you may change
what programs start at Startup. Click the Startup tab look for the program you
do not want to begin at startup and remove the check mark by it [Apply] [OK}.
- How much RAM?
Click on Start, type msinfo32
[Enter] and read the System Summary page. Read the Installed Physical Memory (RAM) or Total Physical Memory.
- Defrag your hard drive.
Fragmentation occurs when using the computer. To defrag the hard drive. Click
on Start --> Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> Disk
Defragmenter.
- Check disk (chkdsk).
Click on Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> Command Prompt
--> then type CHKDSK/F and then Y.
- Restore thumbnail previews (Windows Vista).
Open Explorer, click Organize --> Folder
and Search Options --> View and Clear the Always show icons, never thumbnails
box.
- Antivirus.
Always have a Antivirus software on the PC, keep it up-to-date and it runs a real-time protection. Most Antivirus
software's have this functionality.
